Ind. ruling upholds decision to reject gun suit

HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) — The Indiana Court of Appeals has upheld a ruling that two northwestern Indiana residents are not adversely affected by Hammond gun-control ordinances that are voided under Indiana law.

The appeals court ruling Friday sides with a Lake County judge's decision to reject the lawsuit because a 2011 state law had voided all local restrictions on guns.

However, an attorney representing the residents tells The Times of Munster (http://bit.ly/XSzfO8 ) he intends to request the Indiana Supreme Court take on the case. Guy Relford says Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott intentionally wants to leave the ordinances on the books so they influence people's behavior. He says the city should repeal the ordinances to avoid confusion.

The ordinances had restricted guns from city buildings or at any city board or commission meeting.
