RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) — An eastern Indiana man accused of burning the feet of a 7-year-old girl he was babysitting by placing her in scalding water has agreed to plead guilty to battery.
Police allege that 28-year-old Robert D. Kendall of Richmond forced the child to stand in scalding water as punishment, leaving her with second-degree burns on her feet that required hospitalization.
Under his proposed plea agreement, Kendall would plead guilty to battery resulting in bodily injury and would be sentenced to 15 years in prison with no time suspended.
The Palladium-Item reports (http://pinews.co/ZkYCFR ) that if a judge accepts his plea, prosecutors would dismiss a neglect count Kendall had faced. He remains in the Wayne County Jail on $50,000 cash bond.
