Historic terminal transferred to Indiana Landmarks

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A historic Greyhound bus station in southwestern Indiana that's been shuttered for six years is getting a new life as the regional headquarters for a statewide preservation group.

The Evansville Redevelopment Commission on Tuesday approved transferring ownership of the 1939 building to Indiana Landmarks, which will use part of the Art Deco-styled station for a regional office.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/14bxu2f ) that Indiana Landmarks' board of directors was expected to approve the transfer Wednesday.

The Evansville terminal has been vacant since 2007 and it's been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979. Indiana Landmarks will raise funds to restore the former bus terminal. Indiana Landmarks President Marsh Davis says one goal is reopening the building's spacious interior and recreating its high ceilings.
