Friend says Davis loved flying in Cave's jet

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A friend says former Oklahoma quarterback Steve Davis loved flying in the private jet that he and the craft's owner died in when it crashed in northern Indiana.

Memphis, Tenn., high school football coach Bill Courtney says Davis loved to sit in the co-pilot seat of Wesley Caves' Beechcraft Premier I twin-jet because it was "such a cool plane."

Courtney was featured in the Oscar-winning documentary "Undefeated" and met Davis during a private showing in Tulsa, Okla., eight months ago. Courtney says the two became friends, talking on the telephone several times a week.

Courtney says Davis arranged for Caves to fly him to and from Tulsa for a speaking engagement two weeks ago and flew along to spend time with Courtney but also because he loved flying alongside Caves.
