MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A former central Indiana city clerk awaiting trial on charges she stole more than $11,000 in taxpayer money now faces a lawsuit over the alleged embezzlement.
Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller (ZEL'-ur) sued 30-year-old Misty Danielle Buck in Delaware Circuit Court earlier this month, alleging that the former Muncie city clerk "wrongfully or negligently" failed to deposit city funds totaling about $11,300.
The Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/XqP9x9 ) Buck is charged with theft and deception and faces a trial set to begin March 15.
Authorities allege Buck at times kept some of the money paid to the clerk's office through city court judgments and traffic-related fines. She was fired in February 2012.
Zoeller's suit states that Indiana has recovered more than $10,000 for Muncie under an insurance policy.
