CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) — Three juvenile court magistrates in Lake County are asking the Indiana Supreme Court to intervene in the replacement of the county's juvenile court judge.
Magistrates Glenn Commons, Jeffery Miller and Charlotte Peller have served as judicial assistants for two decades. They ask the state Supreme Court in their lawsuit to give them the chance to apply for the juvenile judge post.
Current Juvenile Judge Mary Beth Bonaventura is leaving the bench to become head of the Indiana Department of Child Services in Indianapolis.
The Times of Munster reports (http://bit.ly/ZWbOQH ) court documents say the trio want the state Supreme Court to block all sitting Lake judges from filling the juvenile court vacancy until the court rules whether state law is being circumvented and the judgeship is being wrongfully usurped.
