FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) -

Update: The search for the 75-year-old man involved in a house explosion has turned into a recovery.  Crews called off the search around 11 p.m. Saturday.  According to Fairborn Fire Marshal Carl Day, crews will resume the recovery Sunday morning.

Fire and rescue crews from across the Miami Valley were dispatched to a Fairborn neighborhood on reports of a massive house explosion.

According to officials, five people were injured and one man is unaccounted for.

The duplex home, at 367/369 Wayne Drive, errupted just after 2 p.m. Saturday.

According to officials, an independent contracting company was repairing an underground waterline in the front yard of the house when the man operating the backhoe struck a gas pipe, causing the explosion.

When rescue crews arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Two men, including an adult teenager, and three children, ages 5,3 and 1, were rescued from the rubble.

According to officials, the three children were in the neighboring home when the explosion happened.  The eruption caved in the side of their house, crushing them.   The three children injured were taken by Care Flight to Dayton Children's Medical Center.  Neighbors tell 2News the children are expected to survive

The two men injured were rushed to Miami Valley Hospital.  Their status is unknown.

The man who is unaccounted for is believed to be part of the contracting crew.

Officials are not identifying any of the victims.

Vectren and DP&L crews turned off the gas and electric to secure the area.

The neighboring homes also suffered major damage.
