MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WDTN) - Heart disease remains the nation's number one killer.
And the American Heart Association is focusing on the lives of women, specifically Hispanic women who die from heart disease at the rate of 1 per minute.
It's the kind of exercise that's a killer. It is helping knock out heart disease.
Zumba Fitness trainer Veronica Lopez Miller changed her sedentary lifestyle several years ago.
"I've lost so many family members to heart disease um, it's really touched me in so many ways when it hit closer to home immediate family member woke up and said, it's time to make a change," said Lopez.
So Veronica made a pledge to herself and members of her Spanish speaking community.
"With hispanics, obesity is prevalent because of our culture. The food is great, let them know healthier ways to prepare those foods and make a part of your tradition."
The American Heart Association is asking Latinas to live for their hearts and to take a more active role with their lifestyles.
