Thousands try for free tuition offer

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (WDTN) - A promise of free tuition has potential students flocking to a Yellow Springs college on the rebound.

Antioch College closed in 2008, but re-opened last year thanks to the efforts of alumni, students and staff.

Currently, the school only has about 35 students.

But after it made an offer of free tuition last week, school officials have already received 2,400 applications with several thousand more in the works. So what's the catch?

"When the college closed we lost our accreditation. You cannot regain your accreditation until you have a graduating class. So in a sense, the students are taking a risk on us. They are counting on us winning back our accreditation," said Mark Roosevelt, President of Antioch College.

75 students will be selected to receive the free tuition offer. The deal could be worth up to $100,000.
