MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WDTN) - Olympic gold medalist, Kayla Harrison, is heading home to Middletown and it will be quite a party.

Organizers are planning homecoming events for Tuesday, August 28.

Kayla will visit Middletown High School during the day, where she went to school through the tenth grade.

There will be a parade at 6:00 pm.  Kayla and her family will be escorted through downtown Middletown in a motorcade complete with police escort and marching band.

The motorcade will start near the post office at Reinartz Boulevard and Verity Parkway. It will travel south on Verity Parkway, turn right onto Central Avenue, right onto Main Street and right into the City Building driveway.

Fans are encouraged to line the streets to wish Kayla a hearty congratulations.

A Welcome Home Kayla program will begin at 6:30 pm. in the city plaza.

“We want to invite anyone and everyone to join us in welcoming Kayla home. Students from surrounding schools, people from other communities, judo athletes, and those who want to show their support for her hard won award are all invited to the gathering," said Larry Mulligan, Mayor of Middletown.

Kayla is the first American to win a gold medal in Judo. This will be her first trip home since the London Games.
