Fuel tank removal at airport hits snag

UPS explains delays at Dayton site

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - There's a snag in plans to redevelop the old UPS site at Dayton International Airport.  UPS  is not involved in negotiations with a new tenant,  but it is still obligated to remove the fuel tanks at the site.

2 NEWS on Assignment has learned the tank project is delayed.

A spokesman for UPS told us the fire marshal insists the company remove the underground pipes that connect the tanks. UPS said that was not part of the original plan.  UPS also indicated the pipes cannot be taken out without removing utility lines.

The shipping company estimates demolition will be done by the end of the year as long as there are no environmental or utility issues.

2 NEWS on Assignment was first to report negotiations were underway for a new tenant to move into the site.
