DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - DP&L is on top of every outage and possible outage. It has hundreds of people ready to fix any problem that could occur today. As the wind picks up, DP&L employees like Lesley Sprigg is keeping a close eye on the radar.
"And the winds have picked up as expected and it is causing
problems and we expect it to continue throughout the day as long as
the winds are still blowing."
Mother nature is howling as the wind beats up on trees and
power lines. Sprigg says she studies maps that shows how many
people are without power in each county DP&L serves.
"A lot of those are single outages where tree limbs have fallen on the lines."
Sprigg states nearly 400 people were without electricity this morning
"The outages this morning we've restored within an hour in most cases."
Power is being restored relatively quickly as DP&L throws everything it has to combat the high winds.
"We have 500 employees out in the field today working on restoring power and we have another 200 back here at our service building answering the phones and analyzing the outages and troubleshooting."
Sprigg says they're more prepared today than ever before.
"We learned a lot from Ike. We have put a lot of things in place that seem to be working today. Doing a lot more communication with our communities, cities, towns and villages keeping them up to date."
She also says you need to be prepared in case you lose power for an extended period of time.
"If you have medical equipment in your home you might want to call your emergency management agency in your county to see what services are available and what shelters would be available for you to get power for your medical equipment."
If you have an outage or see power lines on the ground. Make sure you call 877-4outage or 877-468-8243
