DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton detectives hope to start 2012 by closing the book on an unsolved homicide case from 2011.

Fifty-five-year-old John Booker was found by his son shot and and killed inside his Maplelawn Drive home on November 18.

Family members said he had just visited a nephew in the hospital and they believed he surprised burglars when he returned home.

The victim's son, John Booker Jr. said, "He was laying there face first on the stairs. I looked through the door and he was just laying there. I thought he had passed out, didn't take his blood pressure medicine or something. I don't know. I went in and turned him over and I saw blood on his shirt."

Police said Booker was killed for Three HDTV's, a play station, and a cell phone.

If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 222-7867.
