Dayton (WDTN) - It is a murder that has shocked and outraged the entire community... and tonight police are ready to pay for your tip that solves the case.

911 Caller: "We was in the house playing a game we heard a big boom...so we get up, look out the window and we see the ice cream truck up against the house."

That call to 9-1-1 sent Dayton police to the 4600 block of Midway Avenue the evening of July 12th. What initially appeared to be an accident was actually much more tragic. The driver of the ice cream truck, 60 year old Carl Banks, had been shot and killed in an apparent attempted robbery. Banks was a longtime fixture in his community who often delivered food to the needy... making his untimely death, all the more tragic.

"It was a senseless act over a few dollars. It makes no sense to me to lose my Dad."

"A couple days ago we bought ice cream sandwiches from him and he was a really nice guy."

The suspect is described as a black male, 15-18 years old, 5'7" to 5'8", wearing red pants and a cardigan sweater wrapped around his head. We do have some information that has come in and police are getting closer to solving this case but we still need the help from the public.
