SUGARCREEK TWP., Ohio (WDTN) - A rash of thefts has Sugarcreek Township Police beefing up patrols in neighborhoods.

Officers said thieves are stealing from cars, barns, even entering homes and taking anything they can get their hands on.

"They took our hammers, our hand tools, anything that could be pawned quickly." Said one woman who doesn't want to be identified. She said over $6,000 dollars worth of tools were stolen out of her husband's work truck.

"They took our tools we use to make a living." She said.

They aren't the only victims. Sugarcreek Township Police said there have been over 50 reports of thefts from cars, barns and homes since the beginning of the summer.

"Mainly they're targeting property. They're taking purses, cell phones, GPS devices, leaf blowers, and tools." Said Sgt. Mark White from the Sugarcreek Township Police Department.

The southern part of Sugarcreek was hit hard at first, but recently people have been robbed in every direction of the township.

White said these are crimes of opportunity, and want to remind everyone to lock up day and night.

They're targeting these particular places, because its easy prey because the cars and places are left unlocked."
