DAYTON (WDTN) - Dayton detectives hope with your help, they'll be able to catch the killers behind some of 2009's still unsolved homicides.

Days before Christmas, Dayton Police were called to United Foods in the 2100 hundred block of North Main on reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found the stores security guard, Orlyn "Charlie" Conklin shot to death in the driveway.

"We've had several leads that we are looking into currently," said Detective Michael Deborde. "We are looking for individuals who were in the lot when the shooting occurred. We are under the impression that there were several people there, that could have information that could help us".

Deborde said he thinks robbery may have been the motive.

"they took a great life," said Violet Wilson, Conklin's ex-wife. "They took a father, they took a brother, they took a friend, they took a hero. I hope that they can live with themselves for that".

Currently, there's a makeshift memorial outside United Foods. An ice machine shares messages of grief and love.

With a community in mourning and a killer still on the loose, detectives have asked the public for tips.

"Any information would help," said Deborde. "No matter how small it could be. Anything that someone saw, it could be a vehicle, people in the area that appeared strange, anything".

If you have any information that could help catch Charlie Conklin's killer, of solve any of 2009's other unsolved homicides, call Crimestoppers at 222-7867.
