Mother wants justice for son's murder

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - It's been a year since 22-year old Daquan Nooks was gunned down in front of his mother's Trotwood home. His friend was injured, but survived.

Police are still searching for the shooter.

It's a day that changed Felicia Peterson's life forever.

"It's hurtful. It's been a long year for me and it's not been an easy one," said Peterson.

She and her family were enjoying dinner last September 12th at her home on Stuben Drive when her son went outside to say goodbye to a friend.

"The next thing I know, I heard about 7 or 8 shots."

When she went outside she saw her son, 22-year-old Daquan Nooks, lying in the front yard lifeless.

"You would never think that you would be burying your child."

A small group of family gathered Wednesday night at Dayton View Park where Nooks played as a child. His mother is begging for the community's help to find those involved. "I want justice for my son. I can't sleep. I have restless nights."

She also has a message for her son's killers.

"Don't be a coward. You know what you done. It was not right and I want you guys to come forward and get off the streets before you take another mother's child."
