Local man pleads guilty to food stamp fraud

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A West Carrolton man pleaded guilty Friday to charges related to food stamp fraud involving two businesses in Montgomery County.

If accepted, Edward “Ed” Claude Jones, 55, would spend 2 years in prison and pay $300,000 after admitting to the scheme, the U.S. Attorney for Southern Ohio announced.

According to court documents, Jones hid money he received from the sale of fake merchandise and the illegal purchase of Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT or food stamps cards) by illegally cashing large checks.

Court documents identify “InBetween Quick Mart” in Moraine and Arrow Battery in West Carrolton being involved in the conspiracy.

As part of the plea agreement, Jones also admitted filing taxes using a dead man’s name and using a social security number belonging to someone in Westerville, Ohio.
