Drug investigation leads to rape charge

MIAMI TWP., Ohio (WDTN) - Evidence seized during a Miami Township drug raid led police to another crime. Now, a man has been indicted on charges of rape and sexual battery.

It all started with a drug raid on Orchard Run Road in March of last year.

As the case began to move forward in the court system, that's when investigators discovered a videotape that allegedly shows Edward Robinson raping a woman.

"Never ceased to be amazed at what some people will sink to, you know it's hard to wrap your mind around how someone could do certain things," said Major David Hale, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

Robinson is now in the Montgomery County jail.

Officials say he knew the victim and believe the two were out partying with mutual friends before the incident, which happened in December of 2010.

Major David Hale says investigators determined who the victim was and when they approached the 22-year-old woman, she didn't realize what had happened.

"He ends up videotaping it from a video camera after the point that she is unconscious enough that she can't really resist," said Major Hale.

Officials say they believe the woman had taken some sort of drugs, but that Robinson may have also put something in her drink.

He faces rape and sexual battery charges in this case, but drug charges are also pending out of Shelby County, in an unrelated incident and in federal court.
