WDTN-TV's Chief Meteorologist Carl Nichols will be laying down his weather clicker for the final time on Friday, January 9th, 2009. The Hall of Fame weathercaster has been forecasting the weather for Miami Valley residents for over 30 years.
"It's a bittersweet day for all of us at 2 NEWS On Your Side," said Steve Diorio, WDTN-TV News Director. "Carl has done so much for this community on and off air. He’ll be missed by many, but deserves this opportunity to spend more time with his family."
Carl came to WDTN-TV in November of 1977 from WYTV-TV in Youngstown, Ohio where he was Chief Meteorologist. Prior to that, he worked for the Central Weather Service in Chicago. He has also worked in Louisville, Kentucky and Tampa, Florida.
"I'm proud to have called the Miami Valley my home."said Carl Nichols, WDTN-TV Chief Meteorologist. "The way we forecast weather on television sure has changed over the years, but it's been a great ride. I've met and worked with so many wonderful people. While I'll miss forecasting the weather on a daily basis, I look forward to the next phase in my life getting to spend it with my grandchildren."
For more than 20 years, Carl has been the face behind Carl's Coats for Kids, which is designed to provide warm coats for the less fortunate throughout the Miami Valley. More than 400,000 coats have been handed out during that time.
Carl will continue to fill in on 2 NEWS On Your Side as a
meteorologist from time to time. He will also continue to take part
in his Carl's Coats for Kids campaign.
