Huber Hire: Company looks for workers

HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WDTN) - You might look at one old factory and see the pile of trash or the peeling paint, but those at one company see a potential masterpiece.

"It's almost like these buildings give us a blank canvass, so we just need to come in and fix them up a little bit," says Process Equipment Company CEO Bill Rosenberg.

That's why PECo decided to buy a factory on U.S. 40 that's been closed for nearly a decade, and turn it into something people in Huber Heights can be proud of again.

"This has some of the physical attributes that make it quickly usable for us," Rosenberg says.

2 NEWS got an exclusive tour of the building. Already some of the restoration work has started.

There's only one problem, finding workers to fill the place.

"Our most critical need today is people," Rosenberg says.

The company says it plans on hiring about 60 more people in the next 3 to 5 years and has grant money to help train some of those workers.

You would think with the high unemployment numbers they'd have plenty of good candidates for open machinist and welder positions, but that hasn't been the case.

"We can't find enough good qualified people to hire right now," Rosenberg says.

The company tells 2 NEWS its expansion plans come as manufacturing starts to rebound from the recession.

"We think it's getting better from a process known as re-shoring, where manufacturing is coming back from overseas into the United States," Rosenberg says.

PECo has its canvass ready for that move. Now it's just waiting for the people to add some color to it.
