Enon, Ohio (WDTN) - Claire Kaufman was born on October 20, 2011 and weighed a little over 7lbs.
The next day doctors suspected she had a rare disease called biliary atresia.
The problem is the bile ducts are blocked and the connection between the liver and intestines did not develop.
There is no cure nor does anyone know what causes it.
Right now Claire's liver is deteriorating and her growth is inhibited.
She's now awaiting a liver transplant to save my life.
Claire's family works with the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) which is a national organization dedicated to coordinating communities in raising funds for patients in need of a transplant.
All donations are fully tax deductible and are administered by COTA.
There are no administrative costs and 100% of all money raised goes directly to transplant-related expenses.
With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure.
So, a couple of fundraisers are planned.
A Zumbathon on October 21 and Gymkhana on October 27.
