Spent some time at Greenfield Village in Dearborn

DEARBORN, Michigan (WDTN) - Some 'Wright' observations while visiting Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan.

My daughters Chloe, Sophie and myself spent some time over the weekend at 'The Henry Ford.'

A collection of historic buildings, re-creations, museums and an Imax. but my emotions are mixed when I see our very own Wright Brothers Cycle Company building and the Wright homestead here at the village as opposed to where it once was on Hawthorne and West Third Street respectively.

It kept re-running in my head, 'Wright history, wrong place.'

The structures were moved to the village in the 1930's when Henry Ford approached his friend Orville Wright about securing the properties for his Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan.

It's where 80 years ago the complex was formally dedicated by its founder Henry Ford and his friend and mentor, Thomas Edison.

The institution opened in 1929 as a school and was driven by Ford’s belief that the genius of the American people was not being taught in textbooks.

Today, The Henry Ford, in Dearborn, Michigan, is a national history destination with an incomparable collection documenting the American experience.

This national historic landmark has five unique venue attractions one of which displays the Wright's business and home proudly.

Then I got to thinking with urban decay, the 1960's riots and the popular thing to do at the time, cut up old homes and businesses into apartments, it was a good thing the properties were moved because they may not have survived

If you would like to visit it's an easy drive, but allow yourself a couple days to get it all in, plus Ford offers tours of  'The Rouge' it's one-of-a-kind automobile production facility that dates back over 80 years.
