MORAINE, OHIO (WDTN) - The 5K Walk/Run for Autism Awareness is coming up April 24. Why are we talking about it so early? So, you'll have plenty of time to get a team together, made up of friends, family and you.

The 5K Walk/Run for Autism & Vendor Expo is the organizations main fundraising event for the year. Funds raised through this event bring educational opportunities to the community, provide grants to families living with autism to pay for therapies, treatments, camp, and other items not covered by insurance, and fund fun activities and outings for families living with autism. 100% of the funds raised from the walk stay LOCAL to help LOCAL families.

The 2010 Walk Honorary Chair is Nick Drennan. Nick is 14 years-old and the author of "Super Botley and the 100 little monsters made out of ink". We are very proud to have Nick help us start the walk and to be an inspiration for those with autism and those who care for someone with autism. The sky is truly the limit!

The local orgaization is a chapter of the Autism Society of America that assists over 8,000 individuals living with autism in the Greater Dayton area, and their families.

ABOUT AUTISM: Autism is a complex neurological disorder characterized by difficulties in communication and socialization. It is more prevalent than childhood diabetes, Muscular Dystrophy, and Childhood cancer combined. It affects an estimated 1 in 91 individuals. There is no known cause for autism and no cure.
