Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) -

On Tuesday, November 20, residents and city officials helped dedicate a sound sculpture celebrating the musical and creative legacy of Roger Troutman as part of the Phoenix Gateway Project at Salem Avenue at Catalpa Drive .

The 26-foot-tall sculpture was conceived and designed by Dayton artist Michael Bashaw and is topped by "tone rods" that play a few bars of Troutman's song "I Can Make You Dance" when moved by wind.

The public art helps continue the revitalization of northwest Dayton neighborhoods and is installed on the site of the former Troutman Sound Labs.

Funding was provided in part by a Montgomery County grant, in addition to many private donations.

The Phoenix Gateway is one of many improvements made possible by the Phoenix Project , a partnership of Good Samaritan Hospital, the City of Dayton and CityWide Development Corporation.
