When the Kenton Ridge Marching Band was invited to be the ONLY BAND from Ohio to march in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade everyone was excited, but there was a catch.
You see they have to raise funds for the trip to NYC along with the added expense of purchasing new tubas to the tune of $40,000.
The SOS was sounded and the Springfield community, band parents, students, the Northeastern Local School District, just plain folk who wanted to help and 2 News Jim Bucher, who reported the story first back in August, all collaborated to make beautiful music together.
The band will take off to the Big Apple this coming Monday, November 19 from the High School at 6pm.
Director of Bands Jim Templeton is not only thrilled that the group received this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform in front of a national television audience, but is also amazed at how fast everyone worked together as a team to pull this off.
'We just can't thank the community enough for their unwavering support.' Jim says. 'We couldn't of done any of this without them.'
Hear more from Mr. T and student reaction by watching the Bucher's Beat story.
Remember to catch The Kenton Ridge Marching Cougars this Thursday during the Macy's Parade right here on Channel 2 beginning at 9am, but keep your eyes peeled because the band gets just one minute and fifteen seconds of air time to perform.
Time those trips well to the kitchen to check on Tom Turkey.
