DAYTON, OHIO (WDTN) - The Mad River Middle School Indians Basketball Team rally in support of one of their own, helping to raise money in the name of Evan Monaghan’s brother Kyle.

Evan and his team play a regular season game Tuesday, February 9, 5:30 pm and at the same time raise money for the American Heart Association. The event is called "Hoops for Heart."

The inspiration behind the event is Kyle’s brother, Evan, who passed away from congenital heart defects.

According to the American Heart Association, 40,000 children are born with a heart defect every year. Nearly 40% of all deaths in the United States are related to heart disease and stroke.

During the event raffle tickets will be sold. Items include gift baskets, circus tickets, a Cincinnati Reds variety package just to name a few. They hope to raise $2500.00 which will make a $10,000 total over four years.

Tickets are available at the door. Mad River Middle School is located across from Stebbins High School.
