DAYTON, OH (WDTN) - Community Blood Center (CBC) is honored to announce that the week of November 22, 2010 is “Thanks for Giving Us Carl Day Tribute Week” in memory of veteran Dayton broadcaster Carl Day who passed away on Wednesday after a long battle with cancer.

All blood donations during the week will be made in Carl’s name. Donors who are not eligible to give blood next week may designate any future blood donation in memory of Carl Day at any location and at any time by notifying the person registering them that they wish for their donation to be attributed to Carl.

Carl served as Honorary Blood Drive Chairman for “Carl’s Community Blood Drives” in 2000 which earned him and WDTN-TV a national Media of the Year award from America’s Blood Centers.

He served as Honorary Blood Drive Chairman for three years, the third year with peers Marsha Bonhart and Guy Fogle.

Carl emceed numerous events including CBC’s Donor Appreciation Day events and most recently a recognition event for area blood drive chairpersons which took place on September 26.

“Our donors were fond of Carl,” said Jodi Minneman, chief operating officer of blood services. “During his time as Honorary Blood Drive Chairman, Carl would often bring his wife Donna to blood drives and they would visit with donors. He would thank the donors for their “gifts of life” and tell them that it could have been their blood that helped save his life while he battled leukemia.”
