TOLEDO, Ohio (WDTN) - A U.S. Postal Service report acknowledges that problems have accompanied the closing of a mail processing center in Lima in northwest Ohio.
Residents and businesses have complained about delays now that letters from a 15-county area that used to be handled at the Lima facility are instead scanned, postmarked, and sorted in Toledo, about 70 miles away.
The Blade newspaper of Toledo reports the Postal Service Inspector General concludes there have indeed been glitches, for reasons that include an underestimate of the amount of mail that would be transferred and inadequate staffing of the Toledo processing center.
Post office spokesman Victor Dubina says those issues are being addressed. He says the agency must consolidate to cut costs.
