A new sound in Clark County

Grant makes tornado sirens possible

MAD RIVER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) - The sound of tornado sirens may soon be heard in parts of Clark County.  There's a new plan in the works for Mad River Township and the VIllage of Enon.

Before long spring will be here and so will severe storms.  Mad River Township and the Village of Enon are making sure their communities are safe when severe weather hits.

Currently there are no sirens to warn those who are outside... at events like soccer or baseball games.  However the township and village just received a grant that will cover half the cost and installation of four tornado sirens.  The entire village of Enon and about 90 percent of Mad River Township will be covered by the new sirens.

Kathy Estep, Mad River Township Trustee says, "We are very suburban and a lot of people are outside.  I know tv news is usually our first line of defense in the event of tornadoes.  Since we have so many people outdoors I figured this would add another layer of protection for our community to have when they are outside."

The first part of the project is to complete an environmental impact study to find the best spots to place the sirens.  The township is hoping to have them ready to go by the spring.
