A Cat's Amazing Tale

Feline and family reunited

Dayton (WDTN) -  "Madison!  Here's your baby.  What's going on Madison?"

It's a reunion many miles in the making.  It all started when the Army transferred the Allen family, complete with three kids, a dog and a cat... from Hawaii.. to Fort Campbell, Kentucky.  On the way, Dad and the two pets took a side trip to Michigan to visit his Mom.  Then, on the drive to Kentucky, he stopped at a rest area in Franklin to walk the dog.

Altonio Allen said, "When I get back in the car from letting her out Madison was waiting at the door.  As soon as I opened the door she rushed right out.  She ran behind a dumpster but by the time I got behind the dumpster she was completely gone."

Altonio looked everywhere for several hours but Madison had vanished.  And with duty calling at Fort Campbell, he had to hit the road without her... but the search continued.

"I was seeing cats everywhere I turned.  I saw a cat, I'm lookin' at 'em, that looks like our cat!  Obviously it wasn't and after a month I realized we might not get her back."

But that's where good planning and good fortune come in.  A man who just happened to be a Humane Society board member spotted Madison in Centerville and turned her in.  And when she was checked by the shelter staff, they found she had been microchipped... and were surprised to see the cell phone number listed had a Hawaii area code.

Jamilia Allen said, "When I got the call I was out with my baby.  Is this a joke?  Someone really found my cat all the way in Ohio?  Quite a surprise!  I do give all thanks to number one God and number two the microchip."

The Allens wanted us to pass along a big "thank you" to Everit Terhune who found Madison.  And if you haven't already, microchip *your* pet.  Could be the best ten bucks you ever spend.
