Wilmington getting $4.4M for job help
Nearly 8,000 Air Park employees lost their jobs

WILMINGTON, Ohio (AP) - The federal government has come through with an additional $4.4 million to help workers in southwest Ohio hurt by the relocation of DHL shipping operations.
Labor Secretary Hilda Solis said in a statement Thursday that the funding will provide retraining and re-employment services for hundreds of people laid off at Wilmington Air Park.
Package delivery company DHL Express recently closed its air shipping facility in Wilmington and moved it to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, more than 50 miles away.
As a result, most of 8,000 Wilmington Air Park employees have lost their jobs.
News of the new grant comes about a year after the Labor Department provided an initial $3.87 million for job training in Wilmington.
