FRANKLIN, Ohio (WDTN) - The bomb squad was called to a Franklin school Wednesday morning after police found a hand grenade outside the building.
Police made the discovery after receiving a phone call from an Anthony Wayne Elementary School official. When officers arrived at about 8:45 a.m., they evacuated six employees and called the Dayton bomb squad.
The bomb squad examined the grenade and determined it to be inoperable.
At about 12:40 p.m. Franklin police received a call from a woman who lives near the school. She told police she and her husband had recently bought an inoperable hand grenade as a souvenir at a military museum and that her six-year-old son likely left it near the school while playing war games.
