Basket-brawl sends player to hospital

FAIRBORN (WDTN) - A Fairborn fan faces possible charges after a basket-brawl that left a Miamisburg High School student in the hospital.

The fight happened at Friday's game, with just four minutes left on the clock. Officials said players went to the floor fighting for a loose ball. The fight escalated when a fan left the stands and joined in.

Miamisburg Junior Austin McCoy was seriously injured during the brawl. He taken to the hospital with what school officials describe as serious facial injuries, that officials said will require reconstructive surgery to correct.

On Monday, Fairborn and Miamisburg School Administrators expressed their disappointment in the events.

"Obviously, it's a serious situation and we're not happy with it," said Greg Whitehead, Superintendent of Miamisburg Schools. "It was a senseless act by one or two people from Fairborn who have put a bad taste on the relations at this time".

Fairborn Superintendent Dave Scarberry said discipline has already been handed out.

The 18 year-old student fan who fled to the court was suspended for 10 days and officials recommended he be expelled.

One Fairborn player was suspended for at least two games and school officials said anyone else who stepped off the bench will face a one game suspension.
