DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday.

Snow, heavy at times, will continue across the warning area Friday night.

Snow will gradually taper off during Saturday afternoon.

Snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are expected overnight with a storm total of 6 to 10 inches expected by Saturday afternoon.

In addition to the snow, Northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph will occur through at least Saturday morning. These winds will cause areas of blowing snow which may result in local whiteout conditions.

Heavy snow is forecast to accumulate in the warned area causing hazardous driving conditions. Those with travel plans in the warning area are advised to choose an alternate route or should use extreme caution if travel is unavoidable.

Ohio Snow Emergency Levels:

The Ohio Attorney General Opinion 86-023 allows a county sheriff to declare a snow emergency and temporarily close county and township roads within his jurisdiction for the preservation of the public peace.

  • LEVEL 1: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads are also icy. Drive very cautiously.
  • LEVEL 2: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roadways. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work.
  • LEVEL 3: All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. However, those traveling on the roadways may subject themselves to prosecution.
