PIQUA, Ohio (PDC/WDTN) - Blood stained the snow in the 500 block of Weber Street on Tuesday following an afternoon knifing that sent one man to the hospital and another man to jail.

And it was all over a snowball fight, police officials say.

Rushed to the Upper Valley Medical Center and later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton was Shawn Sayer, 18, of Piqua. A condition was not immediately released by hospital officials.

A 16-year-old male juvenile, who once lived with the stabbing victim, was being held at the Miami County Juvenile Detention Center overnight and has been charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony. His name is not being released at this time.

A third man, Dillard Moore, 49, of Piqua, who was with the victim and the suspect as they were walking down the street before the snowball fight and the stabbing also was taken into custody for a nationwide warrant.

Piqua police Lt. Bill Collins said during the snowball fight, the victim threw a snowball at close range and that's when the 16-year-old allegedly pulled a knife, stabbed the man and fled the area.

The knife was ditched following the stabbing and was later recovered by authorities in the snow after a metal detector had to be used to find it, Collins said.

No other charges are expected and the investigation was nearing completion late Tuesday afternoon.
