DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Gary Leitzell, using the family bible with his wife and daughter by his side, was sworn in as Dayton's new mayor Monday morning.

Leitzell said he wants focus on growing jobs and fixing the city's budget.

"It took us a long time to get into this situation," he said. "It's not going to happen overnight. I know that everyone is going to give me about six months before they start beating on me but, if I can make little things happen, it's going to be baby steps, it's going to be lots of little things to lead us to the big things."

Leitzell, a political independent, unseated two-term Democratic Mayor Rhine McLin in November's election.
