TROY, Ohio (WDTN) - A former Miami County teacher and coach pled guilty November 24, 2009 to contributing to the delinquency of a minor for having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Manuel Perez, 42, said he was sorry for the contact he had with the teenager during the time he worked for Milton-Union schools

"I made a huge mistake with inappropriate communication with [the] student in text, and as a teacher, I should never have done," Perez said in court. "A couple of times we met outside school and nothing went on, but it was inappropriate and I'm really sorry for that."

The girl's parents called police after reading hundreds of text messages between Perez and their daughter.

Perez is awaiting sentencing at a later date.
