DAYTON (WDTN) - Dayton Police were called to 611 Huffman Avenue after a home invasion took a tragic turn.
Around 7:30 p.m. police said three men burst into the home.
One of the three people inside the house was also armed and
fired one shot at the suspects as they ran through the house.
When police arrived they found one man down on the back porch of the home.
Officials said they aren't sure why this home was singled out, but suspect it could have something to do with the resident's age.
"The man who lives here is elderly. He was on oxygen," said Lt. Brian Johns. "That maybe why they chose to target this house. Clearly they got the wrong house, for sure."
Police have not released the shooting victim's name. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Dayton officers are searching for two other suspects involved on the home invasion.
The man who fired the shot was questioned, but police say they will not arrest him because the shooting was in self-defense.
