DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A Miami Valley Hospital employee was arrested Monday, July 7 after police found her eight-month-old son locked in her car, which was parked on Foraker Street near the hospital
Dayton police said a passer-by spotted the baby lying on the floorboards in the back of the car. According to police, the boy had a soiled diaper and was left with spoiled milk.
"Obviously it had been there for a while. It wasn't just placed there accidently. It had been in the vehicle for some amount of time to get in that condition," said Sgt. David Reed, Dayton Police.
Police arrested Dnaye Duerson, 19, for child endangering. Reed said Duerson clocked into Miami Valley Hospital's nutrition services department at 6 a.m. Monday, two hours before the boy was found. The mother denied knowing that the boy was in the car.
"She made up her excuse, but things aren't really consistent, so we're not buying her story," said Sgt. Reed.
The baby was turned over to Children's Services, which placed the boy with a foster family.
"The bottom line is that you must provide for the well-being of your child at all times," said Ann Stevens, Montgomery County Job and Family Services.
