DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - All across the country temperatures have been on a roller-coaster ride. The first half of June started cool with the Northeast and the Midwest well below average. However all of that changed just last week with temperatures in the upper 80's and lower 90's surging into Ohio, that can't be to good for crops right?
Well this farmer doesn't think so, in fact the red stains on his hands from his black raspberry crop show you how well things are going. "Everything looks good except for the peach crop. They froze back in February I'm sure you remember when it went down to 22, it was pretty cold, so it got all the peaches but we have a good cherry, apple, strawberry, and raspberry crop so we cant ask for to much more."
Neil Monnin of Monnin Farms is much more accustom to seeing the news media in mid April for killer freezes or during July for drought coverage but this year the ever changing weather pattern has kept decent amounts of sun, warmth, and rains on his fields. Official readings from Dayton International Airport have our temperatures and precipitation sitting (as of June29th) at about 1.3 inches above average for the month.
When it comes to the month ahead conditions continue to look good for crops with cooler readings expected this week and July currently forecast to be slightly cooler then average.
