Toddler lives with adult disease

OAKWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) - A local toddler is living with a chronic disease not usually associated with a person his age.

On any given day, little Bobby Trost boogies to popular tunes, but this time, he's not in the mood.

His mom, Maureen, routinely checks his blood sugar. Bobby was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 2 years old.

"I took him to the pediatrician, they pricked his finger and he was like 390," said Maureen Trost, Bobby's mother.

That blood sugar level for anyone at any age is dangerous and it meant Bobby needed to be hospitalized.

An insulin pump keeps Bobby's blood sugar in check and his mom monitors his meals carefully and checks his blood sugar often.

The Dayton Walk to the Cure for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is coming up on Saturday, September 29.

Registration begins at Island Metro Park in Dayton at 9:00 am. The walk and run starts at 10:00 am.
