This screening checks for hidden blood in your stool. Studies have proven this test, when done every one to two years in people ages 50 to 80, reduces the number of deaths from colorectal cancer by as much as 30%, according to the National Cancer Institute.
This screening does not find cancer, just blood in your stool. If blood is found, it likely is not cancer, but it is important to find out why it is there.
You often cannot see blood in your stool, because it may not be bright red. Dark, older blood cannot always been seen. This is why a screening is important. Premier Community Health (PCH) offers this screening to residents of the greater Dayton region.
