COLUMBUS, Ohio (WDTN) - Victory over obesity could one day be as simple as an injection, as long as you don't mind needles.
Researchers at The Ohio State University have developed an injection that infuses the white fat stored around the midsection with brown fat cells that the body burns for energy.
"Normally, you just exercise or do some surgical procedure and what we're trying to do is encapsulate thermogenic cells. What I mean by that are cells that will actually burn calories so you don't have to," said David DiSilvestro, The Ohio State University.
Researchers plan to test the procedure on obese dogs and cats in the coming months.
The Centers for Disease Control predicts 42-percent of Americans will be obese by 2030.
