DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The Foodbank is embarking on a first of its kind program in Ohio.

It will begin distributing special food boxes for diabetic patients.

More than 1,000 food boxes will be put together three times a year.

CareSource members will then distribute them to their clients in need.

Each box contains almost 17 pounds of nutritious, heart-healthy foods including whole wheat grains, pastas, cereals and various canned goods.

“CareSource and The Foodbank are natural partners for this group of people in our community: both organizations are committed to getting nutritious food to people with special dietary needs”, said Michelle Riley, CEO of The Foodbank.  “The Diabetic Food Pack Navigator boxes will provide the right foods to enhance their health.”

The boxes will be distributed in March, July and October 2013.
