DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Public Health - Dayton and Montgomery County is offering seasonal flu shots.
Time will be set aside weekdays in the Reibold Building at 117 South Main Street in downtown Dayton.
The hours are:
Monday - Thursday from 8:00am to 11:00 am and again from 12:30 pm until 3:30 pm.
Public Health will also give flu shots Friday, October 5, at the Montgomery County Administration Building, 451 W. Third St., Dayton, on the 1st floor lobby.
Health experts say influenza is a very contagious illness that strikes millions of Americans each year. It has a swift onset of severe symptoms beginning with two to seven days of fever, headache, muscle aches, extreme fatigue and a cough.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine each year. CDC recommends that people get vaccinated against influenza as soon as possible. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against the flu.
People at high-risk for influenza-related complications may also need immunization against pneumococcal pneumonia. For most people the vaccine is given only once in a lifetime, with a one-time revaccination recommended only for people with certain medical conditions.
You should not receive the shot if you are hypersensitive to eggs or who have had a severe reaction to a previous dose of influenza vaccine.
