Ryan holds rally in Yellow Springs

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (WDTN) - Hundreds cheered as Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan took the stage Saturday at Young's Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs. This was the fourth stop on his 2-day "Victory in Ohio" bus tour across the state.

Ryan says Americans can't afford another four years under President Obama and he and his running mate Mitt Romney have a plan to create real jobs.

"We've got 23 million Americans struggling to find work today.  We've lost over 600,000 manufacturing jobs. 15% of our fellow citizens are living in poverty today, that's the highest in the generation.  And, what do we have on the horizon if we got another Obama term?" asks Ryan.

Ryan talked about the important role Ohio plays in this election.  He says a vote for the Republican ticket means real recovery is just 10 days away.

"Ohioans you understand that you are the epicenter of this thing.  You understand that you have a responsibility and an opportunity because your decision and the decision of your friends, your family members and your neighbors, may very well determine the direction of this country," says Ryan.

And people came from all over the Buckeye State to show their support.

"The whole darn economy has just gone to heck.  Somebody's got to bring it back.  I believe in the man is telling the truth," comments Mickey Bradley.

"Obama's slogan is Forward, yet GDP is down, employment is down and deficit is up, that's certainly not the right direction," says Mic Murphy.

But, Ryan didn't receive such a warm welcome across the street from Saturday's rally in Yellow Springs.  That's where a small group of Obama supporters held signs like "Yellow Springs is for Obama" and "Moving Forward in Ohio Country."

"I think we need to show that there are people here who have another opinion.  I respect the other opinion.  It's our democratic way of life but I don't agree," explains Mary Donahoe.

"I think this is such a critical election.  I think it's very important that people know the facts and the facts are that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, their number one priority is giving tax cuts to the wealthy and they're going to pay for that by changing Medicare as we know it," comments Bret Thompson.

We'll be seeing more of Ryan this weekend.  On Sunday, he'll be joined by Romney in Mercer County.  The two will speak to a crowd at the Celina Fieldhouse at 2 PM.  Tickets can be found here

2 News will be there for the event. You can see full coverage tomorrow on 2 News at 6 and right here online.
