DAYTON (WDTN) - It is called "Golden Week". The first week of early voting when people can register to vote and cast their ballot one the same day.

Gold is almost gone. Registration to vote in the November 6 elections ends Tuesday night at 9p.m.

Montgomery County Board of Election Deputy Director Steve Harsman said in just the last week they have already voted more than 3,500 people or about 700 hundred a day.

"We are expecting an even bigger turnout as it gets closer to closing time," added Harsman.

On Tuesday, NAACP leaders were driving people to the polls from Courthouse Square.  "We want to make certain that while you have the opportunity, that you take advantage of the opportunity, to come out and early vote." said Derrick Foward, President of the Dayton Unit of the NAACP.

Arnetta Gary got a ride to the polls from Foward. "I was chauffeured and I love it," joked Gary.

She said even inside the election offices it was a painless process. One that she is proud to have participated in. "There were others before us who gave up their time and their lives so that we would have the right to vote," said Gary. "I am going to utilize that right".

Election officials were also encouraging folks to vote early, even if it means more work for them Tuesday night.

"I expect a lot of tired staff," said Harsman. " We've been working seven days a week. We are anxious. It's kind of our game day, but we are prepared for it. It's very draining, but we are ready to assist the voters of Montgomery County".
