Early voters fill the Board of Elections

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - 32,000 people flocked to the Montgomery County Board of Elections Monday to take advantage of the final day of early voting.
 
 One-by-one they patiently waited their turn to cast their ballot. It was a family affair for Terrance Wortham and his daughter who says the process was easy.
 
"Come down, stand in line, fill out your ballot and place it in the box, and I got my voting sticker right here," was how early voter Terrance Worth summed-up morning.

Voters like Renata Anderson are thankful for the multiple opportunities early voting allows.

"My mom and my sister voted yesterday at the church," she said. "I had things to do unfortunately but this is very important to vote, not just early but just to vote."

Sights like today excite Dayton attorney and former Board Of Elections member Dennis Lieberman, who was fired for defying Secretary of State John Husted's directive to eliminate early voting on the weekends.

"This is exactly what we thought early voting should be," Lieberman said. "It's meant to meet the demands of modern day society where you can't always get out on one day and it's working.

Lieberman said his firing was worth it because there was a need, and that need has been met.
 
"I think when we are all said and done and we've counted up the early voting and the absentee mail-ins, that we will come close to 80,000 ballots which will exceed 2008 by almost 30,000," predicted Lieberman.
