Crews prep park for Obama's visit

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Crews were working to set up the stage where on Tuesday President Obama and Vice President Biden will make their first appearance together since the beginning of the campaign.

Since Ohio is a key battleground state, the visit to Dayton does not come as a big surprise. However, the venue the campaign selected for the visit is a different story.

"I couldn't believe he would come to Triangle Park," said Herliner Dunson, who plans to attend the rally.

Montgomery County Democratic leaders said the parks selection actually makes a lot of sense.

"It's because it's in a neighborhood affected by this election," said Mark Owens, Chairman of the Montgomery County Democratic Party. "This is a working class neighborhood that relies on the auto industry. I think it highlights the importance for re-electing the president".

Still, Triangle Park is an open location in the middle of a neighborhood.

"It is challenging, but the Secret Service is prepared for that," said Todd Bagby the Resident Agent in Charge of the Secret Service's Dayton office.

Bagby said his agents are working with dozens of other local law enforcement agencies to make sure the event is secure.

"Outside, it's obviously wide open and there's other things that we have to be concerned about," he said. "We're prepared for a lot of different things, high ground coverage, blocking line of sight. A lot of things like that."

Bagby said they will have boats in the nearby water, helicopters overhead and some roads will be shut down. He warned delays will be inevitable but, it is all in the interest of protecting our nation's Commander in Chief.

"We provide a secure environment for the President and the Vice President and all of our protectees wherever they go".
